Copier Calibration
This methodology only works on color laser copiers that come
with an inbuilt copy-top scanner for making color copies.
| 1. |
Place Focoltone
Calibration Chart over the copier-top scanner and make
a color photocopy [Printout 1] of it. |
| 2. |
Visually check
the colors on Printout 1 and compare against the Focoltone
Calibration Chart. You can then tell if your color copier
is producing pure and accurate CMYK colors from the color
copy. |
| 3. |
If it is not,
use the calibration predefined in the printer to calibrate
the machine e.g. AutoCal, ColorCal etc. |
| 4. |
After calibration,
make another copy of the Focoltone Calibration Chart [Printout
2]. |
| 5. |
Compare Printout
2 against the Focoltone Calibration Chart and Printout
1. Check for color improvements and differences. |
| 6. |
If you are still
not satisfied with Printout 2, you can adjust the tones
of colors manually on your copier for it to produce CMYK
colors to match those on the Calibration Chart. (Please
refer to your copier user manual for machine specific
instructions on adjusting the color toners.) |
| 7. |
After manual
adjustment of your copier's color toner levels, make a
third copy of the Calibration Chart again [Printout 3]. |
| 8. |
Check Printout 3 against the Focoltone
Calibration Chart. |
| 9. |
Repeat steps 9 - 11 until you are satisfied
with your copier colors. |
|
10.
|
Save the calibration setting you had
created. (Please refer to your copier user manual for
machine specific instructions.) |
However,
these adjustments and settings for your color copier will
change over time. You will need to check your color copier
daily for color consistency. For subsequent adjustments, simply
perform the copier's inbuilt calibration tool, e.g. AutoCal
or ColorCal, and recall this memory setting.
This approach zeros your color laser copier to its most optimum
condition. You will also achieve better and more accurate
results when you run Focoltone ICCS after zeroing your copy-top
output with the above steps using the Focoltone Calibration
Chart.
